Advocacy

In my Primary II placement a group of students, including myself, raised money for the Ronald McDonald House and also made small care kits. We sent out a flyer home with each child at Chipperfield Elementary school to let parents know that we would be at their local "trunk-or-treat" and asking students to help us make our care kits. Once the students helped us make the package, the received a special 10 point volunteer "mountie" for helping. At our table, we had students decorate a package and then stuff it with positive notes that they made, stickers, crayons and a pad of paper. Our intentions were to give them to the children staying at the Ronald McDonald House whose sibling was stuck at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Then, the flyer stated that the following Monday would be a dress down day for students and teachers. For a monetary donation or a donation of aluminum tabs, people were allowed to dress in red, yellow or stripes to represent the Ronald McDonald House. Then, one of our team members volunteered to take it directly to The Ronald McDonald House where it was donated on behalf of the student teachers at Chipperfield Elementary School.
