Student Teaching

Third Grade

In third grade I implemented various lessons such as math, science, guided reading, writing and more. However, my favorite was science and writing. In third grade science, we worked with water. This included doing fun experiments that included learning about density, evaporation, water domes and more!

In writing, I implemented a unit on Abraham Lincoln. To my surprise, I quickly found out how much kids know about Abe! The usual end project is just a research paper the kids write. However, I decided to spice it up and allowed them to make a lap book. This allowed kids to cut, color and glue as well as write a research paper. I also allowed students to gain information by using books, magazines and chrome books.

During my time in third grade, I also implemented a Student Learning Outcomes Inquiry Project (SLO). To see my final product that includes why, where and how, click here.

Second Grade

In second grade I implemented various lessons in math, science, guided reading, writing and more! My favorite subjects to teach in this grade were math and science! In math, we were learning how to make rows and columns. I made a think board for them to better explain how to do this! This board stayed in the room to guide them during lessons if they ever forget which was which.

In science, I implemented a unit on ponds. Since a lot of information came from reading, I had students create a classroom pond on a bulletin board. This board had all of the levels of the pond and then the students created the plants and animals to go into it. Each student made several animals and then had to name that animal, state a fact about it and pin it in the correct level of the pond. To help with the facts about the animals, I made a classification board for students to manipulate throughout the unit to better help them understand.
